Built in the traditional style, using nothing but chisel and mallet, our drums are hand-carved in Togo, West Africa by members of Centre des Hommes. Made from iroko wood, used specifically for its lively sound and spiritual qualities, and headed with African goatskin, our djembes will resonate with the full power of their African roots. With intricately carved bases depicting village scenes, African animals, adinkra symbols, and more, our drums are more than an instrument: they are an art piece.
Carved into this drum is the traditional West African Adinkra symbol meaning “endurance.” This symbol gets its meaning from traditional priests that were able to walk on fire without burning their feet, an inspiration to others to endure and overcome difficulties.
